The Blessing

Well, my room mate (who is a nonmember) hadn't been feeling all that great in a while and finally consented to have a blessing. I had asked her a week before if she would like to see a doctor, or if she needed anything or perhaps wanted a blessing? She kinda crinkled her nose and sighed a "maybe". But she was considering it. Then with time she gave into the promptings of the spirit. I knew the spirit was the source behind it because she kept on saying as the time got closer for our home teachers to arrive that she felt that a blessing was what she needed. Just a feeling. How extraordinary of her. I've noticed that she constantly wants the spirit to be with her. She consistently listens to music that is inviting and attends all the church activities (except :(... devotional).
Our home teachers arrived in white shirt and tie, which meant a lot to us girls. I was hoping that someone would take the initiative explain to her what was about to happen. Our family home evening "father", who I swear is inspired at times (I've never seen such a young fatherly figure!) must have had those same thoughts. He explained to her that he and his companion were going to lay his hands upon her head, he explained the oil, and he explained why they could do what they were going to do. She understood perfectly.  Which was amazing to me. She is always so open to our way of life and our beliefs. They make perfect sense to her.
The two boys then laid their hands on her head and the blessing was pronounced. As soon as it began I felt the spirit come over me so strong and I felt as if it was for me as well as her. The power was just so evident. By the end of it our room mate was crying and was expressing her thanks. She was so grateful that she could have that and was beginning to realize just why she felt that she needed a blessing. I really hoped her faith was increased that day. I love her so much!
After the two boys left we sat in a stunned silence. To us, these mere boys had performed something so extraordinary that we could not even begin to explain. We began to talk and analyze. We all agreed they could not have done that on their own, but at the same time we all knew that they had been worthy to exercise their sacred duty.
I am so thankful for the priesthood God has put on the earth for our benefit. He did not leave us alone. In so many ways He is with us.
